SHENANDOAH JUNCTION – A true pitching battle would take place in the Junction Tuesday night, but the Cougars (11-1) would prevail for a 3-1 victory.
After picking up a 1-2-3 in the top of the first, Jefferson put a run on the board in the bottom off of Zac Rose’s ground out, pushing in Cory Daly.
A quiet second inning for both teams would be followed up with Jefferson putting up their second run – a triple to right field by Stevie Lee to give Daly his second run on the night.
Spring Mills finally found a run in the top of the fourth, a single by Aidan Schenzel to Mason Lantz in right field to bring in Evin Hurt. Rose closed out the Cardinals’ time at the plate with a follow up strikeout.
Jefferson then found their final run in the bottom of the inning thanks to Taylor Tennant’s sacrifice to center field. Only 18 batters would see the plate through the rest of the game with little-to-no production on the bags. Dylan McCartney would walk two, and Regan Allinger would be the last Cougar to log a hit.
Rose took the win for the Cougars, throwing five innings and giving up just one walk. He struck out five through 22 batters faced, ending on a .611 strike percentage.
Evan Stambaugh picked up the loss for the Cardinals, throwing six innings and giving up three earned runs and one walk. He struck out just one batter through 23 faced.
