Even though the football season is over, with Shepherd falling once again in the NCAA Division II semifinals, post-season accolades for some Rams players continue to come in.
The big news is five Shepherd players were named Division II Associated Press All-America, one of the highest honors a college football player can achieve in the sports media ranks.
Junior running back Ronnie Brown, senior offensive linemen Joey Fisher and tight end Brian Walker were first-team picks on offense in Division II. Senior quarterback Tyson Bagent, who finished third in this year’s voting for the Harlon Hill Award, was named second-team quarterback.
Bagent, who ends his collegiate career as the all-time leader in touchdown passes in all levels of college football (160), won last year’s Harlon Hill Award as the top football player in Division II.
Kyle Smith, a graduate-student defensive lineman, made second team for the Rams.
Fisher and Walker were named first-team All-D2CAA All-American. Bagent and Brown were named second-team offense.
Bagent and Fisher picked up honors on this year’s American Football Coaches Association’s Division II Coaches’ All-America Team. Bagent was named first-team quarterback. Fisher was named second-team offensive lineman.
