The Jefferson boys won their second straight regional swim title on Saturday at the Shepherd Wellness Center.
The Cougars finished with 143 points, beating out second place Washington, which finished with 119 points. Spring Mills was third with 78 points. Jefferson finished the day with six first-place finishes. Washington had two.
Connor LaBombard and Chris Turner each had two first place finishes for the Cougars.
LaBombard won the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.19. Jefferson’s Zackary Bishop was second with a time of 2:03.35 and Washington’s Jacob Rannenberg (2:04.15) and Kevin Sparks (2:07.48) were third and fourth respectively. Jefferson’s Matt Bandler (2:22.96) rounded out the scoring with an eighth-place finish.
Turner won the 50 yard freestyle tied with Spring Mills’ Taidgh Dowd with a time of 22.99. Jefferson’s Cavin Davis was fifth with a time of 23.87 and Washington’s Spencer LeFebvre was seventh with a time of 24.83.
Turner won the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 51.03. Washington’s Rannenberg(56.05) was fourth and Washington’s LeFebvre was sixth with a time of 56.61.
LaBombard (5:38.79) added another first place finish with win in the 500 yard freestyle. Washington’s Colin Zaglifa was second place with a time of 5:59.16. Washington’s Eashan Hatti (6:11.32) and Bander (6:26.04) finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Jefferson’s team of Davis, Chris Pfaltzgraff, LaBombard and Turner won the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:37.46. Washington’s team of Connor Herfurth, Zaglifa, Rannenberg and LeFebvre were third with a time of 1:40.82.
Davis won first place in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.48. Sparks was second with a time of 1:05.22. Washington’s Jordyn Hess was fourth with a time of 1:08.75. Jefferson’s Justin Gotlieb (1:10.36) and Zach Pfaltzgraff (1:13.33) were fifth and seventh respectively.
Washington’s Hatti took first place in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.26. Bishop was second with a time of 1:11.59 and Chris Pfaltzgraff was third with a time of 1:13.64. Herfurth was fourth with a time of 1:14.04. George Struthers (1:18.11) added points for the Cougars with a sixth place finish.
Washington’s team of Zaglifa, Josh Thomasson, Sparks and Rannenberg finished the meet on a positive note with a victory in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The team swam to a 3:45.14 finish. Jefferson’s team of LaBombard, Max Hawley, Gottlieb and Bishop finished second with a time of 3:48.90.
Jefferson’s boys added more points with a second place finish in the 200 yard medley relay, where its team of Davis, Bishop, Chris Pfaltzgraff and Turner swam to a 1:51.45 finish, less than a tenth of a second behind first-place Spring Mills (1:51.37). Washington’s team of Sparks, Hatti, Thomason and LeFebvre took third place in the event with a time of 1:52.48.
Washington’s Herfurth was second in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 2:21.32. Chris Pfaltzgraff was third with a time of 2:25.82. Zaglifa (2:30.98) was fourth. Zach Pfaltzgraff (2:36.22) was fifth. Jefferson’s Evan Pearson (2:45.46) and Nicholas Bennett (2:52.10) rounded out the scoring.
Thomason was third in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 58.82. Pearson (1:12.17) was seventh.
