WINCHESTER, Va.  – The Cougars took a trip down I-81 to face James Wood in Saturday softball action, but ended up coming up short 10-0 through a quick five innings.

Jefferson saw just four batters step up to the plate each half inning except for one – their final time at bat in the top of the fifth.

The Colonels saw no runs in the first inning, but responded in the second to drop four on the Cougars. A single run in the third and five runs in the bottom of the fourth would end it.

The Colonels runs came off of 10 hits. The Cougars just had three hits, while both teams committed one error.

Chloe Muslow took the loss for Jefferson, throwing the entire four innings giving up six earned runs and five walks and striking out one.

The loss marks the Cougars’ second against their Winchester foe, with James Wood coming away with a 5-0 victory on March 18.

Jefferson returns to action on Monday with a home game against Martinsburg. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
