MARTINSBURG – There’s no better way to describe Emilie Mason and Ashley Palmer’s Monday night other than ‘complete and total domination’.

The two combined for 11 RBI in a performance that would end with the Cougars leaving Martinsburg with a 21-1 victory.

There was no slow start to be had for the Cougars, kicking off the top of the first with five runs before ending the game two innings later with six- and 10-run halves.

Rachel Cunningham set the mood with a triple on a one-out count, pushing in Faith Palmer. After Ashley Palmer walked, Maddie Edwards singled on a 0-1 count to push in Cunningham before Mason singled to push in Palmer from second. Makenzie Daniels stepped up, immediately picking up a hit to push in Edwards. With two outs, Faith Klein ended the scoring run with a single to left field to bring in Daniels. Martinsburg picked up the third out on Faith Palmer’s fly ball to Naijah Blair in left field.

Before their shutout half in the third, Ashley Palmer got things rolling in the second. Palmer reached on error on a grounder to third base, allowing Cunningham to score from second and Isabella O’Bannion from third. To clear the bases and push the lead to 8-0, Edwards singled to center field before Mason did one better with a two-run home run over the center field fence. Faith Palmer picked up her first and only RBI with a two-out single, pushing in Ashtin Hoover from third.

To start the third, Ashley Palmer grounded out, allowing Bethany Piercy to score. Kendall Guy and Mason’s back-to-back doubles would put the Cougars in an even better spot with a 13-0 lead, and two plate appearances later Klein singled to push in Mason. Faith Palmer picked up a single on her next at bat to raise the read to 16-0 before Piercy and Ashley Palmer’s hits drove in three more. To cap her best performance of the season, Mason sent a ball screaming on her first pitch – a line drive to center field – bringing in Piercy and Palmer.

Six Cougars picked up doubles on the night, while Rachel Cunningham was the only batter to log a triple. Four batters were perfect at the plate, two were walked and Guy was the only one to strikeout.

Mason went 4-4 with two runs and a game-high six RBI to lead the pack. Ashley Palmer (1-3, 3 R) had five RBI, while her sister Faith Palmer (3-4, 2 R) logged three RBI. Klein (2-3, 1 R) had two RBI, while Cunningham (2-2, 2 R), Piercy (2-2, 2 R) and Daniels (2-3, 2 R) each had one.

Chloe Munslow picked up the win for Jefferson, giving up just one walk and earned run while striking out two.

Falcan Yancey took the loss for Martinsburg, giving up 19 earned runs.
