With the Shepherd spring sports season coming to a close, the Rams have picked up some impressive honors.
In baseball, Shepherd senior outfielder Jared Carr was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s All-American team, achieving honorable mention status.
Carr, an outfielder, helped lead the Rams to a 22-14-1 mark during the regular season. He batted .375, with 48 hits, 41 RBIs and 11 home runs.
Carr is tied for the league lead in stolen bases (25). He, along with teammate Caleb Walls, achieved status on the D2CCA All-Atlantic Region team. Carr made the first team. Walls was a second-team pick.
Walls batted .395 with 37 RBIs and six homers.
On the softball side, Shepherd’s Nicole Purtell was picked for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s Division II All-American team. She was named second team for the Rams.
Purtell, a junior third baseman, led the team in batting (.433 average). She also had a .669 slugging and .529 on-base percentage.
Purtell led Shepherd in stolen bases (24), hits (55), doubles (13) and triples (four). Purtell, along with sophomore designated player Cameron Davis were named to the D2CCA All-America team.
Davis made the third team. Purtell was an honorable-mention pick.
Davis batted .400 with 48 hits a team-best 49 RBIs. She hit a team-high 11 home runs.
Shepherd went 26-14 this past season.
