Jefferson High School’s football team had hoped for a better home game against defending Class AAA state-champion Martinsburg High on Friday night, but the Bulldogs, and quarterback Ezra Bagent, had other plans.

Bagent, whose brother, Tyson Bagent, quarterbacks Shepherd Uni- versity’s football team, performed on the field against the Cougars like his older brother does in college.

Bagent passed for 381 yards and five touchdowns. Martinsburg’s defense held Jefferson’s ground game to minus two yards. Some bad snaps from center kept taking the Cougars out of hopeful scoring position on the field, and in one case forced Jefferson’s punter to concede a safety.
