Shepherd’s baseball team is hitting its stride at the right time.

The Rams are 22-13-1, winning three of four weekend games with Mansfield.

Shepherd swept a Sunday twinbill from the Mounties at Fairfax Field, 10-1, 21-4. The Rams and Mansfield split a Saturday doubleheader. The Mounties won the first game, 5-1, but Shepherd took the second game, 7-2.

Jared Carr had a solo home run in Sunday’s first game. Brennan Holmes and Joey Goldsmith also homered for the Rams.

Carr and Caleb Walls each had two hits for the Rams. Carr and Walls each had three hits in the second game, as did Joey Schwartz. One of Carr’s hits was his second homer of the day.

Goldsmith homered for the Rams in the second game. Trustin Riley belted a grand slam. Zach Doss and Goldsmith each had two hits.

In Saturday’s twinbill, Carr had a solo home run in the fifth of the first game. He finished with a pair of hits. Dalton Stewart also had two hits for Shepherd.


Shepherd junior third baseman Nicole Purtell has been named to Schutt Sports/NFCA Division II’s National Player and Pitcher of the year’s top 30 list.

Purtell leads the Rams in hitting (.473), slugging (.745) and on-base percentage (.570). She’s had 52 hits, 21 stolen bases and leads the PSAC in on-base percentage.

Purtell ranks second in the league in batting average and doubles. She’s helped the Rams reach the No. 2 ranking in the most recent Atlantic Regional poll.

Shepherd is 26-11, ranked second behind Kutztown (28-10).

Cameron Davis has set a single-season record for home runs, thanks to three she hit for the Rams in the second game of a Wednesday doubleheader at Sara Cree Field against West Chester. Shepherd split the twinbill, winning the second game, 11-8. West Chester won the first game, 6-5.

Tori Seymour had two hits for Shepherd in the second game. Isabella Forte, Davis and Allison Baker each had two hits in the first game for the Rams.

Shepherd fell to West Chester, 9-3 on Thursday in the PSAC Tournament. Davis had two hits.


Shepherd junior midfielder-defender Paige Alexander has been named second-team All-PSAC East. She led the Rams in draw controls (35), ground balls (8) and caused four turnovers.

Alexander had a career-high seven draw controls in a 15-14 win over Kutztown in the season-opener.


Shepherd senior forward Kyle Daggett was named to CoSIDA’s Academic All-District team. The team is selected by College Sports Information Directors of America.

Daggett averaged 11.8 points per game for the Rams in 2019-20 season. His rebounding average was 4.9. He led Shepherd in blocked shots (20).
