Sylvia Jean Ashby, 80, of Charles Town passed away Monday, Jan. 11, 2021 at her residence.

She was born on Feb. 3, 1940 in West Virginia and was the daughter of the late T.L. Goff and Sarah L. (Thomas) Goff.

She retired after 30 years as a Grocery Clerk for Giant Foods.

She was an avid reader and really enjoyed Amish love stories.

Sylvia and her late husband loved to assemble puzzles, 1,000 pieces or more were nothing for them to complete.

She was always cooking or had something cooked in her kitchen. If you left her house hungry, it was your own fault.

Sylvia loved anything by Thomas Kinkade photographs, puzzles and prints.

She was devoted to her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Deborah J. Mullins and husband Ernest, of Elkridge, Maryland and Donna F. Grubaugh, of Jefferson, New York; sons, Thomas H. Ashby, Jr., of Charles Town and Michael J. Ashby, Sr. and wife Carol, of Smithsburg, Maryland; eight grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; brothers, Thomas L. Goff, Sr., of Churchill, TN, Carl C. Goff, Sr., of Charles Town; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Thomas H. Ashby, Sr., who passed away in 2018 and her brother, Charles T. Goff.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2021 at the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town with Dr. Henry Christie officiating.

Interment will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
