Dorothy “Dot” Myers Eye, 101, of Shepherdstown passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at the Hospice of the Panhandle surrounded by friends and family.

Born February 12, 1918, she was the second of four daughters born to the late James Henry and Edith Link Myers. She married in 1941 to the late Stanley Earl Eye. Together they operated the family business, Norwood Orchards, near Engle for over 30 years.

A lifelong resident of Jefferson County, she graduated from Harpers Ferry High School in 1936 and attended Shepherd College (now University). She was a lifelong member of the Phi Sigma Chi Sorority.

While her husband served in the Air Force during World War II, she worked at the local A & P Grocery and at Fairchild Aircraft Company in Hagerstown. She later accepted a position as Bookkeeper at Jefferson Security Bank (JSB). In 1978 she became the first female executive of Jefferson Security Bank where she worked for over 20 years, retiring as Assistant Cashier in 1983.

In retirement she enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Italy and England and an Amtrak excursion across the United States. She was a volunteer docent at the Historic Shepherdstown Museum.

She was a member of Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church in Shepherdstown and the Women of the ELCA.

Left to honor her memory are a daughter, Sandra Eye Cavalier and husband, Charles Andrew (Andy) of Charles Town; grandson, Brent Andrew Cavalier and wife Wendy of Frederick, Maryland; two great-grandchildren, Gabrielle and Mason Cavalier of Frederick, Maryland; a sister, Virginia Myers Bush, of Williamsport, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Corinne Elice Cavalier; and two sisters, Eleanor Myers Dolly and Frances Myers.

The family would like to thank her loving and supportive caregivers, JoAnn Cole and Rachel Householder and the Hospice of the Panhandle for their compassionate care.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Ranson.

Services will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 11 AM at Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church in Shepherdstown with Pastor Karen Erskine-Valentine officiating.

Interment will follow at Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town.
