Larry Scott Whetsell, 65, of Bolivar, WV passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at his home.

Born March 2, 1955 in Charles Town, WV, he was the son of Peggy Hoffman Stinson and Dwight E. Stinson. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1973 and was a member of the Army National Guard from 1973 to 1985.

Scott is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Jean Whetsell and Maureen Holly Bosworth; one son, Jeffery Scott Whetsell (Angela) of Martinsburg, WV; four sisters, Roxanne (Michael) Gerhard, Patti (Dennis) Zarger, Julia Stinson Brugh (Mark), and Danni Stinson; one brother, Robert E. Stinson; two grandchildren, Andrew Scott Whetsell and Joshua Richard Whetsell; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lisa Whetsell.

Scott spent his life as a resident of Bolivar/Harpers Ferry. He enjoyed spending time in nature, hiking, and camping. He was a Civil War living historian for many years and a member of the Bolivar Town Council and Harpers Ferry/Bolivar Honor Guard, in addition to the countless activities he was involved in for which he took no credit. He lived a life in service to others and offered what he could, without desire for recognition or reward. He will be missed deeply by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at a yet-to-be-determined date in the future. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harpers Ferry/Bolivar Honor Guard, P.O. Box 1365, Harpers Ferry, WV 25425.
