Dennis W. “Pappy” Kirk, 67, of Bunker Hill, formerly of Charles Town, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. He was surrounded by his loving family.

He was born May 20, 1952 in Charles Town. He was the son of the late Thomas Woodrow Kirk and Madeline Yvonne (Lancaster).
Dennis retired from the Charles Town Race Track. He had been a fixture at the race track for decades. He was a member of the Charles Town Racing Hall of Fame for his contributions as a jockey and as manager of the Jockey’s Room. Some of his most memorable mounts included, Jiva Coolit, Cortan and Red Legend.
To say, “He wore many hats”, would be an understatement.  Whatever tasks needed completed, Dennis was there to fulfill them. 
He was a member of Airborne Church in Martinsburg.
Dennis graduated from Charles Town High School, Class of 1970.
He was an avid sports fan and could be heard rooting on the Washington Redskins, Duke Basketball Team, New York Yankees and especially, the Lady Falcons of Faith Christian Academy in Martinsburg.
He was a faithful supporter and contributor of St. Jude Children’s Hospital and the Wounded Warrior Project.
Dennis was a family man. He loved and adored his family, especially his granddaughter Madison. She was his angel.
Pappy is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Sherry S. Kirk. Daughter Julie Weatherholtz and husband Tommy of Bunker Hill and one granddaughter: Madison Weatherholtz. Sister: Ann Kelican of Stephens City, VA. and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sandy Dodson.
A celebration of life will be held at Airborne Church (172 Creative Place, Martinsburg, WV 25401) on Monday, December 9, 2019 beginning at 6:30 pm.
Interment will be private.
