Virginia Potts passed on Thursday, October 8th at the age of 88.  She was surrounded by her children and their families. She was under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

She was the daughter of the late Jesse and Ida Frye.

Once all of her 11 children started school, she went to work for Jefferson County Board of Education as a cook and later as a special education aide. She was well known in Shepherdstown and other places as an exceptional cook. Everyone loved her homemade rolls and pies.  Homemade noodles were also a favorite among family and friends. She was a compassionate, giving and kind lady and was considered as “Mom”/”Grandma” to many others.

 She is survived by her children Gene Potts (Kathy), Ann Westfall (Delmas), Kenny Potts (Karen), Dennis Potts (Toni), Sandra Cox (Delbert), Sara Morgan (Ross), Tammy Smith (Roger), Rachel Potts, Ruth Potts, Jeni Sue Sales (Lance). Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother Jesse Frye (Barbara) and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband James R. Potts of 56 years, infant daughter, and daughter Nancy Potts. She was also preceded in death by two sisters Ethel Mauck, Elca Frye, and a sister in infancy.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Paul Westfall, Brandon Potts, Zachery Morgan, Justin Morgan, Hunter Smith, Jerry Westfall and Kaleb Sales.  Honorary Pallbearers: John Billmyer and Mark Lemaster.

A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 13th at the Elmwood Cemetery, Shepherdstown with Pastor Karen Erskine-Valentine officiating.

There was no visitation.

Arrangements are by the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.
