Lawrence E. Kline, Jr., (Larry) 87, passed away peacefully March 21, 2023, at Leighton Place, an assisted living facility in Williamsport, Pa. , after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease.
He was born Sept. 23, 1935, in Washington, DC, to the late Lawrence E. Kline, Sr. and Anita Rush Brill. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois New, the mother of his four children, as well as a stepfather and a half brother and half sister.
Larry is survived by his wife of 39 years, Michelle Amber, four children, four grandchildren, two sisters, and one brother, as well as numerous cousins and nieces and nephews.
Larry spent his early childhood in DC before moving to Charles Town, WV. After spending most of his youth in West Virginia, he eventually moved to Northern Virginia where he lived for more than 60 years. Following a stroke he and Michelle moved to Leighton Place in 2021.
Larry enlisted in the Army and learned to make training films. This led to a lifelong career as a cameraman and producer.
He spent 10 years at the Smithsonian Institution in DC, working in telecommunications. He produced several award-winning documentaries and filmed many celebrities as they donated memorabilia.
He then worked for a PBS station in Maryland writing, filming and producing outdoor shows. In retirement he was an escort driver for wide load trucks. He loved the freedom of the open road.
Larry loved camping, fishing, canoeing, hiking and traveling , especially to Europe. He loved to dance and was named “best dancer” in high school.
He will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor that lives on in his children and grandchildren.
Larry gifted his body to scientific research.A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Charitable contributions may be made in his name to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Appalachian Trail Conservancy.
