Ruby Mae Gainer

Ruby Mae Gainer, 97, of Harpers Ferry, WV passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at the Hospice Inpatient Facility in Kearneysville, WV.

Born July 6, 1922 in Elkhorn, WV she was the daughter of the late Dick Harvey Akers and Pearl Gillispie Akers.

Ruby was a graduate of Big Creek High School in War, WV. Ruby was a member of the New Street Methodist Church in Shepherdstown, WV.

Ruby was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother who always put her family first. She was a woman of faith and prayer.

She valued her family history and loved sharing stories and pictures of the past. 

She lived the life of a football coach’s wife and always Merrill’s biggest fan. Her love of the game endured throughout her life.

She is loved dearly and will be missed more than words could ever express. The memories she gave us are some of our most precious treasures. 

The family would like to thank the nurses, social workers, aides, volunteers, support staff and doctors at Hospice of the Panhandle.

She is survived by her son, Joe Gainer and wife, Betty of Harpers Ferry,WV; one granddaughter, Kelli Duranko and husband, Lee of Charles Town, WW; one grandson, Joey Gainer and fiance’, Ashley Messinger; 8 great-grandchildren, Kelcie, and husband, Colin, Kara, Kaitlyn, Merrill, Maeleigh, Steven, Jackson and Lincoln and one great-great grandchild, Rowan.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Merrill Gainer, one son, Richard Gainer, and two brothers, William Akers and wife, Betty and Shirl Akers.

Graveside services will be held at Rosedale Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2019.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430.
