Dennis Patrick Kelly, 75, a resident of Shepherdstown since 2012, passed away on Friday, January 29, 2021 at his apartment in Shepherdstown, WV.
Born October 13, 1945 in Darby, PA, he was the son of James Patrick and Eleanor B. Kelly, who preceded him in death.
A graduate of Temple University, Dennis was a combat veteran of the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division in the Dominican Republic, and served in 1964-67. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and served as a historian for the National Park Service at the Civil War National Battlefield Parks at Manassas, VA, Stones River, TN, and Kennesaw Mountain, GA. Among his publications was “Kennesaw Mountain and the Atlanta Campaign: A Tour Guide.” He was a volunteer for the Shepherdstown Battlefield Preservation Association and a member of several Civil War round tables, including the Harpers Ferry Civil War Round Table.
Never married, he is mourned by many friends.
An interment ceremony will be held at noon on Saturday, June 19, at Elmwood Cemetery, Shepherdstown.
