Andrew John Dion.tif

Andrew John Dion, of 107 Briar Run Drive in Ranson, went to be with the Lord on Thursday morning after a long and hard-fought 18 month battle against cancer.

Andrew was born in Hagerstown, Maryland on September 22, 2003, to loving parents Loretta (McKenna) Dion and Michael Dion, both of Ranson. He was welcomed home by his older brother, Timothy. He attended T.A. Lowrey Elementary School, North Jefferson Elementary School, Wildwood Middle School and Washington High School. He was well liked at all of his schools and made friends easily with his infectious laugh and a smile that lit up a room. He loved playing with his SpongeBob toys and the cats he had at home.

He is survived by parents, brother, maternal grandmother, Claire McKenna, of Severna Park, Maryland, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, as well as dozens of other family members. Waiting for him in Heaven are his paternal grandparents, Robert and Paulette Dion, his maternal grandfather, John McKenna, and cousins Catherine Poindexter and Ryan McKenna.

Arrangements will be performed by Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Ranson, WV. Services are private.

Andrew’s family kindly asks that donations be made, in Andrew’s name, to one of the following: Children’s Hospital, 1 Inventa Place, 6th floor, Silver Spring, MD 20910; Hospice of the Eastern Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV 25430 or the Casey Cares Foundation, 7100 Columbia Gateway Drive, Suite 155, Columbia, MD 21046.
