Walter James Perkins, 55, of Charles Town, WV passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Winchester Medical Center.

Born June 29, 1964 in Washington, DC, he was the son of Betty Abell Gayle and the late Franklin Delano Perkins.

He was a member of Covenant Baptist Church in Shepherdstown, WV.

James had a generous heart, and served his community over the years as a volunteer fire fighter, good friend and neighbor, and master of “outdoor culinary arts.”

He is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Tracy Boller Perkins, at home; two daughters, Carrie Perkins and partner, Caleb Piper of Hamilton, VA; and Erin Lynn Perkins of Charles Town, WV; one son, Ethan Perkins and wife, Kay of Hays, KS;  mother and step-father, Betty Abell Gayle and husband, Sonny, one grandson, James Atticus Perkins, two sisters, Wendy Stout and Laura McGarry, close aunt and uncle, Donald and Bonnie Berkley of Shepherdstown, WV and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2020 at Covenant Baptist Church, 7485 Shepherdstown Pike, Shepherdstown, WV 25443 with Rev. Dr. Joel Rainey officiating.

The family received friends at the Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV on Thursday evening from 6-9 p.m.
