Dorothy Virginia Young Taylor, was born on leap year, February 29, 1936 in Charles Town WV. She was born to the late Aldridge E. Young and Laura Catherine Bailey. She attended the Eagle Avenue Elementary School and Page Jackson High School at the time when schools were segregated. After graduating from Page Jackson High School, she enrolled in a teaching program at the Historic institution, Storer College were she stayed until its doors closed in 1955. She then transferred to Shepherd College (now Shepherd University) where she graduated with honors, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education.

She accepted her first teaching job at Clarke County, Va at the Johnson Williams Elementary School. She remained there until accepting another job at her old elementary school, Eagle Ave School. She taught there until schools were integrated, she then accepted a teaching position at the Wright Denny Elementary School. She retired after 28 years of teaching.

She loved to travel and loved cruising to any of the Virgin Islands. She also enjoyed shopping and was an avid reader. She was active in her church, Wainwright Baptist Church were she served as the Church Clerk for several years. She was one of the founding members of The Page Jackson High School Alumni Association and served as its secretary. She loved her family and enjoyed all family gatherings.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 64 years, James L. Taylor, two loving children, Cheryl Taylor-Lashley (Wayne) and son Randall Y. Taylor, loving nieces and nephews and a host of additional family and wonderful friends.

She was preceded in death by two siblings, Phyllis Young and Kenneth Young.

A visitation was held on Monday, July 13, 2020 from 2-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV
