Investigators with the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office are seeking the public’s help in locating potential witnesses who were in the area of last month’s arson in Baker Heights that resulted in the death of a West Virginia Air National Guard firefighter.

Two separate fires were determined to have been deliberately set in the early morning hours of Dec. 27. The first occurred in an abandoned house at 7443 Charles Town Road near Baker Heights, and the second occurred in a barn at 3801 Charles Town Road near Bardane.

The potential witnesses were seen riding ATVs near the fires at the time they were set. A dark four-door sedan was also seen in the area.

The Bardane fire occurred about 1:36 a.m., and the fatal Baker Heights arson occurred about 1:56 a.m.

Senior Airman Logan Young, 30, a firefighter assigned to the 167th Airlift Wing in Martinsburg, died fighting the barn fire.

Anyone can report information about these potential witnesses or the arsons at (800) 233-3473.
